Fisher Family Ray, Cilla, Audrey and Archie are four 7ths of the singing Fisher Family. Born into the musical background of opera, drawing room, traditional ballads and Gaelic song the Skiffle era of the 50s and 60s gave them a taste for early Appalachian and political Americana. Major Scottish influences like Norman Buchan , Hamish Henderson and Maurice Blytheman steered them towards their own traditions and along with the talented cast of the early Glasgow revival put Ray and Archie into the professional ranks. Later Cilla was to follow, initially in partnership with Audrey and eventually with her husband Artie in the legendary Singing Kettle Show. After what is nearing half a century of singing, family performances have become rarer as they each follow their own careers. Archie still hosts the Radio Scotland flagship programme Travelling Folk, Ray has relaxed the live side of her appearances, Cilla is still packing them in with the ‘Kettle’ and Audrey has a real job! Their performances embody the atmosphere and spontaneity of the family get together with a wide range of material and a good draught of humour, something that is often missing from the highly rehearsed and over slick, that is sometimes represented as folk music. The Stonehaven appearance will be a double celebration, not only for the anniversary of the club but for what is approaching to be one of the last performances of the Fisher Family.
